Let the Games Begin

well, like most of the south, football is on the brain.

I actually had to drive through Auburn today on my way back to Atlanta from Greenville, AL. I drove the four hours to Greenville yesterday evening to spend the night with four of my college roommates. One roommate is getting married in October, and that, of course, calls for celebration. Celebrate we did, as we stayed up until 4 AM!!!!!!!!!! talking about everything under the sun. Oh my word. Am I a crazy woman?

Four hours later, I woke up for the day. At 17 weeks pregnant, four hours is not cutting it. I can barely hold my eyes open.

But

I want to watch the Auburn game. (Thank you ESPN 360!) I want to watch the Alabama game. I want to some how join in the camaraderie of the first football Saturday.

Scott got super lucky and scored a free ticket to the Alabama game from a friend from church, so I am here alone. I am happy that he gets to go, but I can't help but hope that Virginia Tech walks away with the victory. He knows my heart on that issue;)

And, as I mentioned, I made a quick pit stop in Auburn on my way home today. I couldn't help but feel left out as I saw the sea of orange that was College Street. I quickly ran into Zaxby's to grab some lunch, not foolish enough to try to venture further into Auburn than that, and even that small glimpse made me long for my college days. Will I ever stop wishing that college had never ended?

So, now I must turn my attention to the game.

War Eagle, ya'll!

coupons, coupons, coupons, and other Saturday news

Happy Saturday, everyone.

Oh how I love Saturday. Naps and Scott at home and all of that wonderful stuff.
We started the day with an early morning meeting at church, and then we all three headed to Publix.
Then I spent the afternoon reading Harry Potter and napping. Thank you, Scott.
Now, I am headed upstairs to give this little stinker a bath
And then I plan to tackle this coupon disaster. Wish me luck. Maybe before the night is over, my guest room (and ironing board) will be usable again.

by the way, Friday's doctor appointment did not happen. I dropped Ada off, drove the car onto I-75, headed north towards the city, and proceeded to move at maybe 10 mph, as the rain poured down outside, so hard I could barely see in front of me. Perhaps that is why traffic was practically at a stand still. By the time I reached the airport exit, I was already 30 minutes late to my appointment, and after several phone calls to my doctor's office, we decided that I should, in fact, reschedule, as traffic continued to inch along, showing no signs of speeding up. So...I will try again on Wednesday. We'll see what happens.

Saturday Happenings

Things I am loving today
1. All of our purchases made with a $500 Ikea gift card. You need to jump on the online offer bandwagon, I'm telling you.
We have some new purchases sitting in our living room, and I am still contemplating whether or not they work in here, so I will most likely be back later with photos. Things I am deciding on--a bigger coffee table, more "to scale" with our couch, the original coffee table as a side table to hold our new lamp, and drapes for the windows behind the couch. I do believe these purchases will make the living room more complete, though we still have two walls to paint. All in good time, my friends, all in good time. (Scott was exhausted after the shopping trip. Can you tell?)
Okay, observe in the picture below what I am deciding. Does the coffee table work? Scott really likes it. I like it, but I don't love it. We also purchased a sofa table and two lamps, but the sofa table didn't really work; our couch is just too long. So now I wish I could put the lamps on either side of the sofa, but I don't have a table that works on the side with the floor lamp. That is the main quandary. Where do I find a tiny little table for that corner? We still have 100.00 left to spend at Ikea, so maybe I will stumble across something there. Do you agree that the lamps on either side need to match? And do you think the old coffee table as a side table works? I still need to hang the drapes, so the picture is a work in progress. I will be back with "after" photos.
Ada is currently engrossed in playing with her new wooden train set from Ikea. She loves it, and is completely oblivious that it is not actually the same "Thomas" set as the one at Near's (my mom). She can't get enough of her Ikea train, and she can't stop talking about it when we are away from it.
2. I'm loving Route 44 sized water from Sonic with lots of ice and lemon and lime. Oh my goodness. The Lord has been good to me this pregnancy as he has given me quite the craving for water. This is a new thing in my life, and it makes getting my daily water much easier. I really can't stomach many other beverages other than ice cold water.

3. I love Saturday itself. I always love Saturday because Scott is home and life is easier. It's been an exhausting Saturday spent mostly at Ikea, but it's been one where much was accomplished. Though it is early, I feel the nesting coming on, and I have a long to-do list going in my head. Getting the downstairs complete before baby #2 arrives is definitely a must, and today I checked many things off.
4. I love that there is a girly movie awaiting me after Ada goes down for the night. In a very uncharacteristic move, Scott agreed to watch He's Not That Into You with me. We never ever ever agree on movies, but apparently he likes a lot of the actors in this movie? Who knows, but I will take it. I never watch mindless girl movies anymore, and it is just the ticket for a night of relaxing. Do you agree?

So, it's been a good day. A normal day, and that I can appreciate.

Busy Morning

It is not even noon yet, and we have already had a very full day. I have not been to the grocery store for the week, so we had absolutely nothing for breakfast, which meant that we got to go out for breakfast--yea. I love going out for breakfast on Saturday mornings. I just think it's the best way to start the weekend. So we loaded Ada into her car seat, and off we went to try a new restaurant on the square, Gritz. And it was a hit. The restaurant was packed, which was a good sign, and it is located in a very old building on the square with original floors and ceilings. The walls are lined with old black and white pictures of Atlanta in addition to shots of people and places around McDonough. It was a big morning because the doctor encouraged me to concentrate on giving Ada three meals a day, rather than bottles plus little snacks here and there. So, Ada and I split a plate of eggs, grits, bacon, and biscuits. Yummy. And Ada ate the eggs and grits like they were going out of style. I get really excited about firsts like that--Ada's first real breakfast, her first happy meal, etc. etc. I also ordered her a glass of milk, and I poured it into her bottle, and yea, she drank it without even a second thought. It looks like our days of formula may be over. So exciting. I will take a 4 dollar carton of milk over 25 dollar formula any day.

The food at this restaurant was incredibly fresh and home made. Growing up, we had close family friends in Scottsboro (The Baldwins) that lived in a big blue, very old house on Scott Street. I spent many nights over there, and every morning Beth Baldwin would cook a huge breakfast and Jamie Baldwin (her husband) would whistle up the stairs to signal to us children to come down for breakfast. I still remember how cold the hardwood floors were on fall mornings and the way breakfast smelled so good. I still spend a good bit of time with the Baldwins, and Beth still cooks breakfast from time to time, but something about that old blue house made breakfast taste just a little bit better than normal. This morning I could have been sitting in that old kitchen.
After breakfast, we stopped by a local farmers market to buy some fresh tomatoes, and the owner threw in some free bananas. Apparently Saturdays are free banana day. We'll take it.

And finally, we ended our morning with some play time at a local park. Ada enjoyed the swings and sliding with Scott. And of course, she thought it would be more fun to climb up the slide rather than actually slide down the slide. That is so typically Ada. Our fun came to an abrupt end when the slide shocked her. Poor thing, but Scott and I couldn't help but laugh. Her hair was standing straight up. Ada is now sleeping soundly, worn out from all the morning activity.

And family, as always, you will find more pictures if you go to my photo link.

Little miss independent walking around the playground.

Headed home and still facing backwards. Bless her heart, she has to be one year AND 20 lbs to face forward. She didn't quite make the cut.
